All your questions about this necklace

General description of the necklace

Its milky reflections change with the light. This stainless steel necklace holds a drop-shaped white moonstone.

The drop measures 4 x 6 mm. The necklace is 41.5 cm long and extends by 3 cm, then another 3 cm, thanks to its spring ring clasp. Wear it close to the neck, with a crew neck or a boat neck.

What is the history and origin of the moonstone in this necklace?

Moonstone is a feldspar, made up of thin alternating layers of two minerals, orthoclase and albite. When light passes through them, it scatters into a milky, bluish or silvery glow that seems to float on the surface: this is adularescence, which earned the stone its name. Its body color ranges from translucent white to peach or pink. Its historic deposits are in Sri Lanka and India; it is also mined in Africa, notably in Madagascar and Tanzania, and the origin of each stone is stated on its product page. An Indian tradition says it is made of solidified moonbeams and gives it as a wedding gift; the Romans associated it with Diana, goddess of the moon, and it was said to protect night travelers. Art Nouveau brought it back into favor at the turn of the 20th century.

What potential benefits can you expect?

In lithotherapy, moonstone is the stone of femininity, intuition and new beginnings. It is credited with a gentle energy that may help soothe overly intense emotions, restore inner balance and open up to others with tolerance. It may also stimulate creativity and imagination. Tradition associates it with the Sacral Chakra, with the signs of Cancer and Pisces, and makes it the birthstone for June. These virtues belong to the beliefs of lithotherapy and have not been demonstrated by science: they are in no way a substitute for medical advice. Wearing a moonstone is above all enjoying that shifting glow that makes it so special.

Our care tips

Stainless steel owes its resistance to corrosion to the chromium it contains. Wash your jewelry in lukewarm, soapy water with a soft cloth, then dry it. After contact with seawater or chlorinated water, rinse it in clean water. Avoid abrasive products and chlorinated household products, which can damage its surface.

Moonstone is more fragile than it looks: its layered structure makes it sensitive to knocks, which can split it, as well as to heat and sudden changes in temperature. Take off your jewelry for sports, manual work or cooking, and store it separately to avoid scratches. To clean it, rinse the stone in lukewarm, soapy water or in spring water, then dry it carefully with a soft cloth. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners. In lithotherapy, it is recharged for a few hours in moonlight, ideally on a full-moon night, on a windowsill or placed on a quartz cluster.

What are the manufacturing steps, standards and certifications of the necklace?

Each piece of jewelry comes with its certificate of authenticity. Stainless steel does not darken and can handle contact with water: a piece of jewelry that goes everywhere with you, compliant with the European REACH regulations on nickel, lead and cadmium. As steel is not a precious metal, it does not bear a fineness hallmark, in accordance with standard practice.

Who is it for? Is the jewelry hypoallergenic?

For you if you love light-colored stones and delicate jewelry, or for a gentle gift. Stainless steel is hypoallergenic and REACH compliant: it suits most sensitive skin.
