All your questions about this ring

General description of the ring

Wearing a sapphire every day is possible: this round ring holds it in a prong setting, on rhodium-plated 925 silver, in our Classic collection.

The stone measures 6 mm and the ring weighs 1.88 g, slim enough to wear alone or next to a wedding band. It is not adjustable, which is why checking your size first matters.

What is the history and origin of the sapphire in this ring?

Sapphire is a corundum, a crystallized aluminum oxide, one of the hardest stones there is, second only to diamond. Traces of iron and titanium give it its blue, from light blue to midnight blue; the same mineral exists in pink, yellow or green, and is called ruby when it is red. It forms in rocks transformed by heat, or rises from the depths with certain lavas, and is often gathered in river gravels. Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Burma, Thailand and Australia are among its major deposits. Its name comes from the Greek sappheiros, which probably referred to lapis lazuli. A symbol of wisdom and fidelity, it has adorned kings and clergy, and since 1981 it has graced Lady Diana's famous engagement ring.

The stone in your jewelry comes from Thailand.

What potential benefits can you expect?

In lithotherapy, sapphire is seen as a stone of wisdom, truth and clarity. It is credited with the power to help put your thoughts in order, stay on course toward your goals and make decisions with discernment. It may also encourage serenity, intuition, sincerity and fidelity; as early as Antiquity, it was thought to protect against envy. Tradition associates it with the Third Eye Chakra and with the sign of Libra, and makes it the birthstone for September. These virtues belong to the beliefs of lithotherapy: they have not been scientifically proven and are in no way a substitute for medical advice. Wearing a sapphire is first and foremost the pleasure of an intense, lasting color, from blue, the most famous, to pink or yellow.

Our care tips

Your rhodium-plated 925 silver jewelry needs no special care. Clean it in lukewarm, soapy water with a soft cloth, then dry it. Avoid hard brushes, which can scratch it, and harsh chemicals. Over time, the rhodium layer may wear off: a jeweler can then apply a new one.

Sapphire is a very hard and resistant stone, made to be worn every day. It is not affected by light, water or most everyday products. Its hardness means it can scratch other jewelry: store it separately, in its pouch. To restore its sparkle, wash the stone in lukewarm, soapy water with a soft brush, paying particular attention to the back of the stone where dust collects, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. In lithotherapy, it is purified with incense or sage smoke, and recharged for a few hours in daylight or moonlight, or placed on a flower of life.

What are the manufacturing steps, standards and certifications of the ring?

925 silver is an alloy made up of 92.5% pure silver. Rhodium plating gives it a shiny finish that limits tarnishing. Designed to be worn every day, with complete peace of mind: our jewelry complies with the European REACH regulations on nickel, lead and cadmium. Each piece is hallmarked and comes with its certificate of authenticity. The hallmarking combines the 925 fineness mark and a sponsor's mark registered in the European Union; only pieces too small to be stamped are exempt.

Who is it for? Is the jewelry hypoallergenic?

For you if you like precious stones worn simply, or to give a real stone without ostentation. Rhodium-plated 925 silver is hypoallergenic and complies with REACH regulations: it suits most sensitive skin.
